Public demonstrations in support of Ukrainians and representatives of other national minorities who face insults, discrimination, and physical aggression were held in 22 cities across Poland.
The nationwide campaign was initiated by the Committee for the Defence of Democracy. The organizers said they wanted to draw public attention to the problem of ethnically motivated violence and express support for people who become victims of attacks and humiliation.
During the demonstrations, participants were given stickers bearing the slogan “Don’t be indifferent.” People were encouraged to place them on shop windows, doors of businesses and establishments, as well as on cars. In this way, owners can show that Ukrainians and others facing aggression can turn to them for help and expect a safe and supportive response.
According to the organizers, the current demonstrations are intended to be only the first stage of a broader public initiative. Citizens are being urged not to ignore expressions of hatred, humiliation, and violence regardless of a person’s nationality, origin, or language. It was also emphasized that indifference to such incidents may contribute to their further spread.
A separate demonstration was held in Warsaw on Friday under the slogan “My Poland does not beat, insult, or poison.” Participants submitted a petition to the authorities calling for stronger measures against violence, including brutal attacks on Ukrainian citizens. The petition was signed by more than 11,000 people.
Against the backdrop of these initiatives, growing concern is being raised over the increasing number of incidents involving Ukrainians in Poland. In recent weeks, the number of attacks on Ukrainian citizens in the country has risen noticeably.
